Creat phrases by chosing seprating words

If there were an edit button (for modifying the term itself) when creating a LingQ, it would not only be useful for this but also for other use cases. For example with elisions, the computer wants to create a LingQ for "all'olio" for example but the user wants to create a LingQ for "olio".
As for separating words, the user could manually input a special separating character ∮ (there can be a button to type the character in) when they edit the term. So for example the term can be "pick ∮ up".
When the computer scans for terms, it can allow for 1-3 words to appear in the middle. This is possible with Regular Expressions or in some other way if it's being processed as a sequence of tokens. So something like "pick the fruit up" would be recognized. There is certainly a technical hurdle here but I also think it is doable with time and effort (I am a software engineer).
I think it should be done in this order.
- Add support for editing a LingQ term upon creation. (i.e. all'olio -> olio). Difficulty: Easy
- Add support for multi-token LingQ's if that doesn't already exist. (i.e. pick up). Difficulty: Hard
- Add support for separations (i.e. pick ∮ up term, pick the fruit up text). Difficulty: Hard
Well hope that helps in some way :)

Jing Wang (Baldre)Yes, this is something we should do. We don't yet have a great solution but it is in our plans.

Mark Kaufmann one idea would be to have an edit modal or something, where you can create the word selections yourself by selecting parts of the sentence. This would also be very useful for Chinese as well, where sometimes words are grouped when they shouldn't be, or ungrouped when they should be.
