Make Edit Sentence mode a valid way to consume content

To support faster language learning, for both Mobile and Web version, please enable ability to do our reading in Edit sentence mode. Add ability to count towards stats, bookmark last read point and if possible to mark lingQ etc.
Advantage of edit sentence mode for consuming lesson.
- Current sentence mode UI/UX is terrible with play button high up at the top, it is unreachable with my thumb. Edit Sentence mode has the play button positioned perfectly and easy reach with my thumb. In edit sentence mode, my thumb does not cover any text at any point. It is in a perfect position to support faster language acquisition.
- Almost all content have very bad timestamp problems. Fixing takes a lot of time. Edit sentence mode allows me to make quick edits to timestamps on the fly while reading. This speeds up learning by reducing time spent fixing stuff or jumping to different pages.
- Sentence mode requires me to click on reveal translation to reveal it but Edit Sentence mode has a very powerful feature where the translation is not hidden I can just glance down to read it as needed without any clicking. This speed up my learning due to reduction in clicks.
Lastly, On mobile app we can go sentence by sentence in edit sentence mode but it jumps back to original edit point first entry when phone goes to sleep mode.
edit : For the web version, the easiest way is to have a split screen
edit-sentence mode
, which stays in sync with sentence view.

Interesting comments here, some of which I have also felt, specifically the easy editing of timestamps being added to the main sentence view. We are adding controls to enable translation and audio to play automatically and show automatically. So, some of these issues should be resolved in time.

Mark Kaufmann Awesome. thanks !
Those would be good. In this way I won't have to use separate apps like Keymapper or browser extension to auto reveal/play them. Another user on forum also requested to have the option to have Notes to auto reveal as well.
Yup, until the day comes when Auto timestamping works perfectly, I think it might be good idea to improve on quick edits for timestamp. So that problems with timestamps can be quickly tweaked without leaving sentence view.
Or a more developed/enhanced way to consume lessons in Edit Sentence mode. Improvement on Edit Sentence mode would solve most problems without messing up the normal Sentence View. The complexity can stay in Edit Sentence mode while keeping Sentence View clean and simple (assuming that is the LingQ vision for sentence view).
On the web version. Edit sentence mode can easily appear as a split screen similar to how the side bar appears and it should stays in-sync with sentence view. In this way you have the solution. Everything is shown, including lingQ, highlights and editing capabilities.
2 quick ways
- either Show Sentence view (as split screen) while in Edit Sentence view
- or show Edit Sentence view (as split screen.) while in Sentence view
User that needs to can then consume and edit at the same time.
Or a more difficult way, you can create UI for all that edits in-line and in place in sentence view, but that would require UI redesigned additions and etc.
thanks!
