Feature Requests

Please can I make an app suggestion. I noticed that the mobile web browser and app are different and there is a feature on the mobile web browser that I think doesn’t exist on the app which would really help my use and enjoyment of the app. Please can you add to the app the ability to filter by course type / provider ? I want to use LingQ to study what my language exchange talk friends send me (import) but I also want to be able to use LingQ for discovering my own content - and I would prefer to be able to filter not just by context (which the app already does) but most importantly by media type. I have different preferences for different types of media and it would really help my enjoyment of the app if I could easily filter between text, video, and audio, on the fly - as I enjoy each type at different times - walking, eating, sitting in the evening on the couch - please add this!

There is a recurring issue when using LingQ on different platforms. When reading in browser and later switching to iOS app the reading status will not sync immediately and the user doesn't have the ability to force a sync either. Example: Reading in browser from 5th to 20th page in a lesson Opening the lesson in iOS app will show reading status at 5th page Using the "refresh" option will not update the reading status Previously added LingQs are forgotten and still highlighted as new in the lesson While reading the app will randomly update and sync the reading status on its own This behavior means that a user has to manually find the page where they stopped reading. For me sometimes while I'm looking for the page the app will update, but other times it takes so long that by time it syncs I already found the location. Troubleshooting steps tried: Using the "refresh" button (Doesn't seem to work on iOS. When tapped, the reading status bar will flash green as if syncing the status but then returns to the local state without updating.) Force quitting the app Quitting & reopening the lesson This seems to affect achievements too. Most recently I started reading in browser, then continued on iOS. The reading status was not synced and while I was catching up and re-adding the previously added new LingQs the app notified me of having reached 20.000 words which should not be possible as all words I was adding have already been added in the browser. The achievement popup was shown just as my reading status updated in the app, but I didn't receive a notification in the browser for the achievement. Note: the issue seems to only affect desktop to iOS sync. The reading status in browser is correctly synced each time. Recommended solution: refresh button should force request reading status from the server. In most cases it seems that LingQ stores the correct reading status but won't sync for minutes or even when this option is tapped.

As I’m reading a lesson and listening to the audio, I often want to click a word to see its definition. But the audio keeps playing, so I need to pause the audio first and then go back to find the word that I wanted to click on. It would be awesome if the audio could automatically pause when I click on a word, then automatically resume when I dismiss the definition popup. Then I wouldn’t lose my place as I pause and resume the audio.

I think it would be useful to be able to add custom dictionaries or personal external tools where the only thing you have to define is a url and a GET parameter where you indicate the word to search for. For example, if I wanted to use nihongo master to search for the word 子供, it would be enough to define the dictionary as: https://www.nihongomaster.com/japanese/dictionary?query=[WORD] And have LingQ generate the link: https://www.nihongomaster.com/japanese/dictionary?query=子供

Hello, I am using mobile and i find the AI translations and definitions are often too contextual and therefore dont give the generic meaning of a word and instead the meaning in only that context. This often results in situations that it gives a meaning of a word as more than it should be. This makes it harder to extrapolate the meaning of words to other contexts. Can there be a feature to turn off AI features on IOS? Note i have tried changing the default dictionary from ChatGPT back to google translate but this doesn’t seem to resolve the issue.

Many of us use Lingq to read books and it would be nice to see further improvements to the reader such as: better embedding of pictures footnotes table of contents searching in the text being able to search through lesson notes enhanced formatting of titles further options for text alignment (e.g justify) scrolling mode All the above are common basic features in most e-readers nowadays, so integrating them with Lingq would be fabulous.

Some e-books (e.g. Kindle app, iBooks) break-up words in the end of the line and there are no settings allowing to remove that extra hyphonization. I make print screens of the pages, recognize them by a scanner app and then copy the word version to Lingq. If the AI functionality could remove the extra hyphonization automatically, when the text is being added as a lesson, it would be great.

Please consider adding generation of audio of each page being on the screen separately. It would be especially convenient for big files, where 1 audio for the whole file is not always convenient.

There are hardly any apps in the App Store that teach Urdu - especially the way LingQ does it. I know there would be many people who would love to see Urdu there, as people struggle to find resources online

Dear LingQ Team, First, I would like to thank you for creating such an excellent application that makes language learning so accessible and enjoyable. I have been using LingQ on my iPad, and it has been a fantastic tool in my language-learning journey. However, I would like to suggest an improvement to enhance the review experience. Currently, when reviewing words (marked as new, familiar, or in any other state) using flashcards, multiple-choice, or other methods, the application requires each word to be reviewed twice in the same session. While this might be helpful in certain cases, it significantly increases the time spent on reviews, especially when dealing with a large number of words. For example, if I choose to review 20 cards, they are effectively doubled to 40 reviews because each word is repeated twice. I propose adding an option to disable this feature, allowing users to review each word only once per session if desired. This could be implemented as a toggle setting, such as “Enable Double Review for Words,” which users can turn on or off based on their preferences. The reason for this suggestion is that I currently have over 7,000 words to review. Sometimes, I prefer a quick review session to go through as many words as possible without having to spend extra time revisiting each word twice in the same session. Interestingly, this approach aligns with advice given by the founder of LingQ, who encourages flexibility in reviewing methods. I would greatly appreciate it if you could consider this feature request, as it would make the review process more efficient for users like me.
